In 2016, while researching the third volume of the They Drew as They Pleased book series, The Hidden Art of Disney’s Late Golden Age (Chronicle Books, 2017), thanks to Campbell Grant’s daughter, Roxanne Lapidus, [Didier Ghez] had the pleasure of locating Campbell’s correspondence.

Campbell had started at the Disney Studio in October 1934. At the time of these letters, he was living in a rented house in Laurel Canyon, Hollywood, but spent every weekend in Santa Barbara, where his mother and his brother Gordon lived, and where he had numerous friends. He apparently often drove south to the studio on Monday mornings. Most of his letters appear to have been written on Monday mornings, and many are on studio letterhead: “Walt Disney Productions, 2719 Hyperion, Hollywood, California.” […]
