Claude Coats was a veteran Disney background artist and later a WED Imagineer. Claude was with the company for more than half a century, and my father and Mr. Coats were good friends. I have vivid childhood memories of swimming in the pool at Claude and wife Evy’s rambling Burbank home, of watching the elaborate narrative home movies that Claude made with his kids (they were adventure films, often with a comedic twist), and generally hanging out. I talked to Claude about his background work at Disney’s, and “Pinocchio” in particular, in April, 1978. Claude passed away in 1992, aged 78. [...]
