William Tytla did not just walk into the Disney Studio as a novice. He had begun his animation career in the early 1920s on the East Coast and by the time he went to Hollywood, his reputation as an outstanding animator had traveled there before him.

I first met Tytla at the small studio of John Terry, brother of Paul Terry of Terrytoons fame. Bill was about seventeen or eighteen and had not grown his identifying moustache as yet. The reason Bill Tytla originally grew a moustache was to look older. This came about several years after we were no longer with John Terry.
