The Art Of Animation
Leonard Maltin

Longtime CARTOONIST PROfiles subscriber LEONARD MALTIN, whose articles on animation appear in a number of prestigious publications, originally did the following story for ‘Museum' magazine, but he tells us that he'd like to see it reach a wider audience than it has so far. He asks us to credit the July/August 1982 issue of ‘Museum', © Museum Magazine Associates.

One day in the early 1930s, Walt Disney walked through his Los Angeles studio carrying a large stack of celluloids, which had been used in a recent Mickey Mouse cartoon.

"Anybody want these before I throw them away?" he asked. Hardly anyone responded, and most of the cels were junked. The animator who recalled this incident, not long ago, shook his head in dismay.
