Sun shines on Disneyland Hotel
Theme park hotel laundry uses energy from the sun to help offset operating costs

The laundry of tomorrow is just around the corner from Tomorrowland.

The Disneyland Hotel, adjacent to the world-famous amusement park, now boasts a laundry department that makes use of the latest technological advances in solar water heating and water reclamation. The new facility is concluding its first year of operation with reports of significant energy savings and more efficient water usage in this drought-conscious region.

Southern California is known for its year-round sunshine, and the hotel's designers took this into account in constructing the $16 million, 406-room Bonita Tower addition. The roof of this 13-story tower is adorned by long rows of solar collector panels.

As California sunshine beats down on Anaheim, the city where the hotel is located, water flows through the 102 copper-aluminum rooftop panels and picks up a free charge of solar energy.
