Mark Henn
If one tries to compare the animators of Disney’s New Golden Age in the late ’80s and early ’90s to those of the first Golden Age in the ’30s, then Andreas Deja becomes Milt Kahl and Glen Keane turns into Bill Tytla. Play this game a few more minutes and Mark Henn has to be compared to Marc Davis, since both spent a great part of their career animating Disney’s heroines.
Mark Henn was born in Dayton, Ohio, in 1958. Mark graduated from Trotwood-Madison High School in 1976 and attended Sinclair Community College, the University of Dayton and Bowling Green. He then went to CalArts and was hired by the Disney out of CalArts in 1980. Mark’s most famous roles involve animating Mickey in Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Jasmine in Aladdin, Young Simba in The Lion King, Pocahontas in Pocahontas, Mulan in Mulan, and Tiana in The Princess and the Frog.
If one had to name Disney’s Nine New Men, Mark would be part of the elite group. […]
