Brad Bird
Charles Solomon
The director of The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille is already a legend of animation in his own right. Brad Bird was born in Kalispell, Montana. On a tour of the Walt Disney Studio at age eleven, he announced that someday he would become part of its animation team, and soon afterward began work on his own fifteen-minute animated short. Within two years and a half, Bird had completed his animation. As a teenager, barely in high school, Bird was mentored by Milt Kahl. […] Brad’s friendship with Milt Kahl, the most opinionated of the Nine Old Men, led him to discover the softer side of a genius.
