Larry Clemmons: Once, during a story session, a storyman was telling what a giraffe would say. Walt said, “Giraffes can’t talk,” and he gave a lengthy talk about giraffes lacking vocal cords. Then the storyman resumed and Walt said, “What did the giraffe say?”
When a person tried to tell a long story at the lunch table, Walt would begin tapping his fork on the table and the cadence of the fork on the table would indicate his growing boredom.
