Thor Putnam attended Stanford University with Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, and James Algar, and all four men shared apartments while studying at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Each found employment at Disney in 1934-35, and Putnam became a top art director/ layout artist on Pinocchio, Fantasia’s Bald Mountain/Ave Maria segments, and many other features/television shows and two of John Canemaker’s favorite shorts of the 1950s, namely The Little House and Ben And Me.
