Goodyear Unveils a New Transportation System

Cars that don't have motors, and roads that do, are features of an automated transportation system introduced at California's Disneyland in a preview of a future without traffic jams.

The system, named the Goodyear Peoplemover for its ability carry large numbers of passengers in continuous motion, was hailed by Russell DeYoung, chairman and chief executive officer of the sponsoring Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, as holding "great possibilities as superior method of moving people over short to medium range distances.

Made up into 62 four car trains, the Peoplemover vehicles are propelled at speeds up to seven mph by electric motor powered rubber wheels pro-truding from an elevated "glideway."
