Disney’s transition years, from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s, were a critical period which is often overlooked in official histories of the Studio.

Animator Dave Spafford, who was hired by Disney in 1975, followed the Don Bluth “rebels” and was re-hired by the Studio in the 1980s to work on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, offers a special perspective on the mood at the Disney and Bluth studios at the time.
