Yippies Force Disneyland Closing
Disneyland patrons file out of park under watchful eye of police after amusement park was closed five hours early.
ANAHEIM, Cal., Aug. 6 (AP) – Disneyland officials closed the world famous amusement park five hours early tonight after they said more than 100 hippie types "threatened destruction of property and violence." About 29,000 people were in the park when loudspeakers blared requests to clear the area. Disneyland spokesmen said the move followed refusal by more than 100 long-haired youths to cease demonstrating on the amusement park's Main Street. Authorities said the park would open on schedule tomorrow. The youths, who had been at the park all day in what was billed as a Yippie invasion, bad shouted obscenities, pulled down red, white and blue bunting hanging near Disneyland's make-believe City Hall, and "appeared on the verge of causing a serious disturbance," officials said.
