„COME IN AND HAVE A CLOSE LOOK at our home, folks — all fifteen million of you.”

Such a welcome would sound fantastic almost anywhere except at Monsanto’s Plastics Home of the Future here in Disneyland, where it’s perpetually “open house” and where more than 14 million people have accepted the invitation since 1957.

Now, to live up to its name and to outpace the marching calendar, the revolutionary plastics structure has once again been restyled for the times ahead. Furnishings and equipment, as well as the house itself, are essentially 100 per cent man-made; hardly a natural material appears in anything like its original state anywhere in the building.

Except that plantings have grown much taller and a man-built mountain has sprung up in the background, the exterior appearance has changed very little —- testimonial to the strength and durability of the winged forms of reinforced plastic and urethane foam sandwich shell construction. Yet, although it’s already been here several years, the farsighted cantileverwing design remains a harbinger of what is yet to come in residential building.
