Rare are the documents about Disney’s color supervisors, which gives tremendous value to this article by Mary Lou Eastman Whitman (1915–2013), written in 1941 for her sorority magazine, The Lyre.
Whitman was born April 30, 1915, in Seattle, Washington. In 1929, her family settled in Glendale, California, where she graduated in 1937 from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) with a bachelor’s degree.
She joined the Disney Studio in the late ’30s as a color supervisor, helping to choose the colors for such films as Pinocchio, Bambi, and Fantasia.
