Outwardly serene during it all, but just as sensitive to change, was a structure here in Disneyland, built by Monsanto to dramatize the use of plastics in construction. Designed a decade ago as the Home of the Future, it was until December, 1967, a landmark in the "Tomorrowland" section of the park. More than 20 million persons had visited the graceful plastic structure and walked through its comfortable, efficiently designed rooms before it was razed after a decade. And therein lies a story. For the Monsanto Home of the Future didn't come down without some resistance. Although the "future" had in some ways caught up with the house, wreckers hadn't reckoned on its toughness. […]
