Marty Sklar is a Disney legend, one of the few remaining castmembers who worked side-by-side with Walt Disney, literally walking in his footsteps through some of the most defining moments in Disney Company history. Born in New Brunswick, N.J., Marty started with Disney as a summer intern in 1955. After graduating from UCLA, he rejoined Disney and quickly rose through the ranks, holding a number of key positions in Disney’s fabled creative wing — Imagineering — before becoming Vice Chairman of that department. He retired last year and now has a window in his honor on Main Street in his beloved Disneyland. Recently, I had the distinct privilege of chatting with Marty on a number of topics, but specifically, Disney’s participation in the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair.
