The sound design supervisor for TRON was Michael Fremer, whose responsibility it was to provide a finished soundtrack, consisting of music and sound effects, for the film. Fremer, whose background in sound began in radio while in college during the mid-60s, gained his first motion picture experience as a co-writer and editor on Stephen Lisberger’s animated feature, ANIMALYMPICS (1979). When Lisberger started to make TRON, he brought Fremer along to supervise the sound. In the following interview, conducted shortly after the films release, on September 23, 1982, Fremer candidly describes his responsibilities on TRON and his approach to the film’s sound design.[…]
